Shaping the future of transport planning

Transport planners are facing considerable challenges in our rapidly changing world. To help navigate these challenges and determine priorities for our profession in 2023 and beyond, the Transport Planning Society and Steer are delighted to invite you to an in-person and virtual event, Shaping the future of transport planning: What priorities are emerging for us in 2023?

The event covers some of the big issues transport planners will need to consider this year, including: the emerging new local transport plan guidance; how we respond to the challenges of the climate emergency; the role of transport in tackling the ongoing housing crisis; and the impact of new modes and business models in a post-pandemic world.

Join Jessica Matthew DfT, Victoria Hills RTPI, Prof. Jillian Anable University of Leeds, and Matthew Clark, plus our host Nicola Kane, both from Steer.

Here's what our eminent speakers will cover:

Jessica Matthew

Jessica Matthew, Co-Director, Local Transport Directorate, DfT – what does the new LTP guidance mean for the profession; and what are the government’s priorities for transport in 2023?

Professor Jillian Anable

Professor Jillian Anable, University of Leeds, Institute for Transport Studies – how have travel behaviour and attitudes been impacted by the pandemic, and what does this mean for our ability to make meaningful progress towards decarbonising transport?

Victoria Hills

Victoria Hills, Chief Executive, RTPI – how can we work with the planning profession more effectively in 2023 to better integrate land use and transport planning and deliver truly sustainable new communities?

Matthew Clark

Matthew Clark, New Mobility Practice Lead, Steer – what opportunities and risks do new and shared transport modes bring and will 2023 be the year that these modes have a more significant impact on the challenges our urban areas are facing?

Hybrid event

This free event will be available to attend in person in the Steer London office or online. There are limited spaces for in-person attendance, so please RSVP as soon as possible.

Refreshments will be provided before and after the event. The discussion concludes at 18:00 with drinks and food thereafter for those attending in person. Don't miss this opportunity to hear from industry leaders and shape the future of transport planning.
