El Valle de Aburrá is one of the Colombian regions that has made great efforts to implement an integrated transportation system; however, it still has pollution problems, most of them caused by the transport sector.
To face this problem, the municipality of Medellín wants to introduce clean technologies into the public transport operation, mainly electric buses.
This project consisted of the proposal of a pilot corridor to introduce electric buses, including a set of recommendations to continue the fleet electrification in the city and the analysis of the electric buses value chain to identify the potential to the national industry development and participation producing goods and services.
Our project team prepared a prioritization analysis of the corridors included in the regional transport master plan, made the pilot corridor definition, produced inputs to the electrification study, made a C/B analysis, and a detailed review of the electric buses value chain identifying the opportunities and restrictions to the national industry.
The main products of this project were a methodology to define the studies and analysis required to introduce electric buses, depending on the characteristics of the routes, and the key points to minimize the impact of the fleet changes on the local vehicles industry identifying the opportunities and restrictions.
