Ellie

As a graduate working for Steer’s economic development consultancy firm, Steer Economic Development, I joined the graduate scheme in April 2018. This meant I was joining six months after the 2017/18 cohort of graduates and six months before the 2018/19 graduates.

This has actually worked really well because it means that I have had the chance to know both of these graduate groups and to learn about their work across different parts of the company. As well as this, with the support of the Steer Learning team, my Personal Supervisor and my Steer Economic Development colleagues, I have been able to tailor the graduate scheme sessions to suit my day-to-day work, and my own career development requirements. I find having the sessions spread out across the year really helpful because it means I can practice applying what I have learned straight away.

I work in the Manchester office, which as Steer’s smallest UK office, makes up for its size in its atmosphere. We regularly work across teams and go out to get lunch or after work together.

I have learned so much so far at Steer. One of my favourite things about working here is that the variety of projects means I will keep learning throughout my career. Everyone here is keen to share what they know with you and will allow you to explore different types of work to discover a preferred area of expertise.
