Steer supported the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC) in developing the first iteration of Mobility of People and Goods Roadmaps, which provide a consensus-based insight into the technology trends and forecasts, mapping our predicted net-zero journey to 2050 and beyond.
Steer’s consulting expertise focused on two parallel workstreams: Mobility of Goods and Mobility of People. The roadmaps leverage the knowledge of experts and stakeholders from across the both the passenger and commercial automotive sectors, including local authorities’ transport officers, academics, research bodies, transport operators, trade organisations and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). This extensive engagement ensured the roadmaps reflected diverse industry perspectives, fostering consensus on realistic future timelines and addressing the following themes:
The Mobility of People Roadmap focuses on surface-based movement of individuals or groups using personal or shared vehicular modes. This roadmap is split into two sections:
The Mobility of Goods Roadmap responds to a changing automotive environment and is an evolution of the previous 2020 Light Duty Vehicles, Heavy Goods and Off-Highway Vehicles roadmaps. The 2024 version includes a dedicated section on off-highway vehicles, also known as Non-Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM), to address the specific needs and requirements for decarbonising sectors like construction and agriculture.
