Steer expands its global ports and maritime capability with new appointment

Steer appoints Eliana Palma Barleta as Senior Consultant, strengthening our global ports and maritime expertise in trade and sustainability.

Steer is pleased to announce the appointment of Eliana Palma Barleta as a Senior Consultant in our global Ports & Maritime team, further reinforcing our commitment to helping clients navigate the evolving challenges of global trade, port investments and operations, and maritime sustainability.

Eliana brings over a decade of experience across the United Nations system, academia, and the private sector, specialising in maritime logistics, port performance, and sustainability strategy. She has worked extensively with organisations including the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN-ECLAC), the World Bank, and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

Her recent work has included authoring a technical guidance to support Mediterranean countries under the Barcelona Convention and projects with a focus on port operations and governance, and logistics policy reviews for the UN-ECLAC. Eliana is also pursuing a PhD in Maritime Affairs at the University of Piraeus, with a research focus on sustainability incentives in the maritime industry.

Speaking on the appointment, Alberto Preti, Ports & Maritime Lead for Steer, said:

We are delighted to welcome Eliana to our global team. She brings exceptional expertise at the intersection of policy, sustainability, and maritime logistics, combined with valuable experience working with leading international institutions. Eliana’s insights and strategic perspective will further strengthen our ability to help clients respond to the rapid changes shaping the maritime industry.

Eliana will be based in Europe and will play a key role in supporting Steer’s global clients across the ports, shipping, and maritime sectors, as we continue to deliver strategic advice and powerful solutions to meet the sector’s most complex challenges.
