As an Independent Technical Evaluator, our core responsibility is to provide technical assurance of business cases seeking funding for schemes. These schemes cover a wide range of policy areas including, transport, skills, enterprise zones, housing and commercial development, and environmental mitigation.

Working together with East Architects, Steer prepared a funding bid to Transport for London (TfL). Our bid set out a coherent and compelling case for the scheme and was successful in securing £8m of TfL funding.

Steer was commissioned by Transport for London (TfL) to assess driver behaviour at junctions where continuous footways had been installed in London. A continuous footway refers to a priority junction at which the footway parallel to the major road continues uninterrupted at the same grade and with the same surface.

Steer has supported the Bikeability programme in various forms since its inception and pilot 2006-07. Since 2010 we have provided comprehensive core support services including the administration and payment of cycle training to local authorities, advice and support to stakeholders and registration of new Bikeability providers.

In 2014, Steer was appointed to conduct baseline surveys of “Mayor’s Vision” routes across London, and subsequent one-year and three-year after surveys on completion of the routes.

The purpose of this project was to develop a cycling infrastructure plan for Oxfordshire County Council, setting out the schemes needed to complete and connect the city's existing cycle network by 2020 and identify more ambitious schemes for implementation by 2035, or sooner if funding becomes available.

The City of Westminster first introduced a walking strategy in 2004. With a growing population and forthcoming major schemes such as Crossrail and Crossrail 2, the number of people walking on Westminster’s streets is set to increase further.
